Il tema dellaVI Triennale Internazionale del Libro d’Artista di Vilnius, Lituania è : ‘LOVE’. Artisti da tutto il mondo hanno proposto i propri lavori. La giuria, composta da  Joseph Johannes Visser, (Olanda); Hanne Matthiesen, (Danimarca); Kestutis Vasiliunas, (Lituania) & Deirdre Kelly, della Scuola Internazionale di Grafica) ha selezionato 98 artisti per la mostra. Una selezione dei libri sarà in mostra presso la nostra galleria SGgallery. I libri sono stampati con tecniche classiche di stampa, come xilografia, serigrafia e litografia, mentre altri sono realizzati con una combinazione di tecniche: stampa digitale con disegno, collage ed oggetti; libri ‘ricamati’ a mano; libri-oggetto ed altro.

The theme of the 6th International Artist’s Book Triennial is ‘Love’, artists from all over the world submitted work. The jury made up of Joseph Johannes Visser, (The Netherlands); Hanne Matthiesen, (Denmark); Kestutis Vasiliunas, (Lithuania) & Deirdre Kelly, from the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica selected 98 artists for the exhibition. A selection of these books will be on display at SG gallery. There are books printed by classic graphic techniques – wood engraving, silk-screen printing, lithography; books printed by mixed techniques combining digital printing with drawing, collage and object; concept and “handmade” embroidered books; book – objects; etc.

Stanze… un’affascinante metafora concettuale con la quale raccontarci. Ognuno di noi, inconsapevolmente o meno, racchiude in sé in intimi luoghi il suo vissuto, il tutto di ciò siamo noi, con i nostri ricordi e le nostre emozioni. La stanza come luogo dell’utopia (Francoise-Xavier de Maistre 1823)  ma anche la stanza dell’anima, la stanza dei ricordi, la stanza dei segreti e quella delle confidenze, la stanza di un giorno felice un’emozione un momento, stanze di vita quotidiana. Sarà un cammino tra uno spazio e l’altro a scoprire e scoprirsi in un luogo intimo: il  Libro. Verranno sperimentati libri multiformi e articolati, rappresentativi  della nostra individualità per tradurre tra le pagine i nostri pensieri.

Zelda Rocchi

Nata a Venezia. Inizia i suoi studi di incisione e acquerello alla Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia nel 1992 dove si avvicina al libro d’artista che diventerà insieme all’incisione la forma espressiva più amata e adottata nei suoi lavori.
Nel 1999 vince il primo premio “Giorgio Teardo”.
Numerose sue opere di design del gioiello e tavole anatomiche sono edite in riviste e pubblicazioni italiane e straniere.  E’ attiva con mostre in Italia e all’estero.

Terhi Hurst è una designer e rilegatrice.Ha lavorato come rilegatrice sino al 2000 e dal 2002 ha una sua propria legatoria. Ha studiato Calligrafia tra il 1998 e il 2000 presso la Art School of Kankaanpää, in Finlandia; Legatoria dal 1999 al 2002 presso la Tyrvää School of Arts and Crafts, sempre in Finlandia e nuovamente calligrafia dal 2008, presso la Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.
I suoi lavori sono presenti nelle seguenti collezioni:

Giorgio Teardo era un ricercatore. Tutti quelli che l’hanno conosciuto lo ricordano come una persona entusiasta della vita e delle persone che incontrava. Cominciò con una pittura figurativa per poi passare ai sogni, alla dimensione onirica, fino all’incontro con l’arte e la filosofia giapponese. La sua ricerca improntata su Tantra e pittura Zen, non era però relativa solamente ad una diversa espressione artistica, bensì ad un diverso modo di vivere e di pensare. Tra gli occidentali, gli artisti che più sentiva vicini erano Josef Albers, con il suo studio sui piani colorati, e Marc Rothko con la sua ricerca dei rapporti tra campiture di colore. L’amore per la ricerca rendeva Giorgio una persona piena di rispetto verso gli altri e i loro modi di esprimersi: rispettava le scelte di ciascuno dei suoi studenti, non imponeva a nessuno la sua visione del mondo, ma cercava al contrario di far sì che ognuno realizzasse ciò che aveva dentro, ciò che sentiva. Incoraggiava perciò le persone, le spingeva a sperimentare nuove tecniche, ma soprattutto a non tradire il proprio mondo interiore.
Per questo i suoi studenti della Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, ricorda la moglie Grazia, lo adoravano. E per questo, dopo la sua dolorosa morte avvenuta nel 1997, la Scuola ha deciso di ricordarlo istituendo un premio a suo nome.
Tutti coloro che frequentano i corsi organizzati dalla Scuola possono partecipare con i loro lavori: tra questi, vengono selezionati dieci artisti che poi espongono alla mostra collettiva alla Galleria della Scuola (“Il Sottoportego” ). Il primo artista selezionato vince un corso annuale, il secondo e il terzo un corso estivo.

Rainer Gottlieb Mordmuüller
Braunschweig 1941, vive e lavora a brema e a Parigi. dal 1961 al 1965 ha studiato a berlino all’università di belle arti con W.Volkert, M.Zimmermann e F.Thieler. dal 1965 al 1966, a Parigi, ha frequentato l’atelier d’incisione di J. Friedlander e l’Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts per la Litografia con il prof. Clairin, ottenendo una borsa di studio. E’ Professore di pittura e grafica d’arte all’Università di Osnabrück. e’ attivo con numerosissime mostre personali in tutto il mondo e le sue opere fanno parte di im- portanti collezioni private e pubbliche in europa e negli stati uniti. Ha ricevuto diversi premi internazionali, tra i quali il Premio di Grafica “Do Forni” a Venezia, nel 1990. Per oltre 15 anni ha collaborato con la Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, tenendo corsi di disegno, pittura e incisione.
Claudio Ambrosini
Venezia 1948, compositore e direttore d’orchestra, si è laureato in lingue e letteratura straniera a Milano nel 1972. dal 1972 al 1975 ha studiato musica elettronica con alvise Vidolin al Conserva- torio di Venezia e dal 1975 al 1978 si è dedicato allo studio di strumenti antichi. Nel 1978 si è laureato a Venezia in storia della Musica. determinanti sono stati gli incontri con bruno Maderna e luigi Nono. Nel 1985 ha vinto il Prix de Rome e nel 2007 il leone d’Oro alla biennale Musica di Venezia. Ha ricevuto com- missioni dalla RaI, da WdR, dal governo di Francia, dal Teatro la Fenice e dall’accademia Filarmonica Ro- mana. Nel 1979 ha fondato l’ex Novo ensemble di Venezia, dedicato all’esecuzione di musica contempora- nea. Nel 1983 ha fondato il Centro Internazionale per la Ricerca strumentale, del quale è tuttora il direttore.

How we developed our common artist’s book and our new project

Rainer Gottlieb Mordmuüller
(Born 1941 braunschweig), lives and works in bremen and Paris. From 1961-65  he studied at the State university of Fine Arts in berlin with W. Volkert, M. Zimmermann & F. Thieler. From 1965 to 1966 in Paris he attended the studio of J. Friedlander and studied lithography at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure of beaux-Arts in Paris with Prof. Clairin. He is professor of painting and graphic arts at the university of Osnabrueck. He has participated in many exhibitions worldwide and his works are held in the most important public and private collections. He has received many international prizes, including in 1990 the International printing prize ‘do Forni’ here in Venice. For more than 15 years he has collaborated with the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica holding courses in drawing, painting and printmaking.

Claudio Ambrosini
(Born 9 April 1948), is a composer and conductor. He studied foreign languages and literature at the università di Milano graduating in 1972. From 1972 to 1975 he studied electronic music with Alvise Vidolin at the Venice Conservatory and also early musical instruments. In 1978 he gained a degree in the history of music. He has been greatly influenced in his compositions by his encounters with Bruno Maderna and Luigi Nono. In 1985 he won the Prix de Rome and in 2007 he received the Leone d’Oro at the Music Biennale in Venice. He has received commissions from RAI, WdR, the French government, the Teatro la Fenice, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana and from many other institutions. In 1979 he founded the Ex Novo Ensemble in Venice, which is dedicated to the execution of contemporary music and in 1983 he founded the Centro Internazionale per la Ricerca Strumentale, where he is still director.

MARCO ZANUSSO  nasce a Venezia il 1968 e si laurea nel 1995 presso la Facoltà di Lettere della città. Partecipa a numerose mostre collettive, allestisce diverse personali ed inoltre nel 2000 realizza un intero ciclo di affreschi nel palazzo gotico veneziano di ca’ Papafava a cannaregio. Molte sue opere sono presenti in diverse collezioni private. Sta per pubblicare una serie di scritti a carattere tecnico-stilistico sulla pittura veneta, utili anche per una migliore comprensione della sua pittura e di quella degli artisti che ne hanno influenzato gusto e metodo espressivo. Alterna oggi l’attività di pittore a quella di perito del tribunale. Inaugura una mostra personale alla Galleria di Sant’Eufemia, alla Giudecca, Venerdì 11 Novembre, ore 18:00

Would you like to particpate in a working atmosphere of exchange and dialogue with other artists from around the world?  The studios, gallery and garden at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, provide the location for this unique opportunity to experience real Venetian life. The experience is open to artists, graphic designers, artists’ book makers, calligraphers, printmakers, poets, & writers.

The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia was founded in 1969. In the large, professional facilities in Cannaregio, one of the most lively neighbourhoods in Venice, the Scuola organizes programs for graduate and undergraduate Italian and international students and offers studio space for independent artists in residence.

The Scuola is affiliated with institutions such as Vermont Studio Center, Boston University, Indiana University, as well as Italian Academies of Fine Arts and Museums. Among the international artists who have taught and worked at the Scuola are Henry Goetz, Stanley Hayter, John Ross, Michael Mazur, Clare Romano and Jon Gregg, founder of the Vermont Studio Center.

All resident artists have access to the Scuola’s studios. Accommodation is provided in private bedrooms at the Scuola’s apartments in Campo S.Maurizio, which is in the central historical area of Venice, 5 minutes walk from Piazza S.Marco. The apartments with kitchen, bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities and living area are furnished and equipped. Wireless DSL Internet connection is also provided. Resident artists can be accompanied by another person for an additional fee .

In addition to the Independent Artists Residencies which are held through the Academic Year, a  Summer session of the Program is organized  every year from early June to late August. The Scuola welcomes printmakers, painters and book artists, as well as poets and writers.

An Introduction to Venice

Founded around the year 700 A.D., Venice grew to become an independent city-state and one of Europe’s main centers for trade with the Far East and book publishing. The Venetian school of painting produced great artists such as the Bellini family, Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto, and some of Italy’s greatest printmakers: Tiepolo, Canaletto and Piranesi. The city also attracted British and French painters such as Turner, Whistler and Monet. The artistic climate of Venice today is highlighted by the Biennale dell’Arte di Venezia and other internationally recognized contemporary exhibitions.

The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica

Since it foundation in 1969 the Scuola has been a hub of artistic interaction between American university students, local Italian artists, and prominent international artists such as Stanley Hayter, Henry Goetz, Michael Mazur (first in the photo), Robert Storr, Jonathan Gregg, founder of Vermont Sudio Center (second in the photo), Elizabeth Magil, Art Historian Eric Denker and others.

The Artist in Residence Program gives undergraduate students the opportunity to work alongside and attend lectures by established visiting artists. The Art-Life lecture series creates a forum for the entire community. The SG-gallery features rotating exhibitions often accompanied by workshops and presentations led by the artist in show.

Combining modernity with tradition the Scuola’s inspirational and spacious facilities are comprised of a printshop with presses for all types of printmaking, including a large offset press and a Vandercook letterpress, a silkscreen studio, state- of-the-art computer lab. Studying in Venice provides the unique opportunity to utilize the city itself as a classroom for the disciplines of Art History and the Italian language.

Art History is taught on site in different locations each day to emphasize the importance of seeing and understanding works of art in the physical and historical context for which they were originally created. The course also takes field trips to the island of Torcello and the cities of Padova, Florence, and Rome. Additionally, the Italian Language Tandem Program partners each American student with a local Italian University student so that both may benefit from speaking the other’s language and sharing the other’s culture.
