Boston University Venice Program

Fall and Spring Semester in Venice

Painting, Graphic Design, Printmaking, Book-Arts, Art History, and Italian

Spring Semester 2010: January 23 – May 14, 2010

Visual Arts students may spend one of their junior semesters abroad studying art in the heart of beautiful Venice, Italy. Boston University’s Studio Arts Program at Venice’s Scuola Internazionale di Grafica offers courses in graphic design, painting, drawing, printmaking, and bookmaking. While the curriculum is designed for graphic design and painting majors, art education and sculpture majors may be eligible to participate in the program with faculty approval. The facilities at the Scuola include a fully equipped print workshop, printing and drawing studios, artist-in-residence studios, and computer facilities. Internationally recognized instructors and visiting artists teach art courses in Italian and English, and School of Visual Arts students interact with Italian and international students. The curriculum, enhanced by planned field trips to local museums, galleries, art sites, and neighboring cities, draws on Venice’s rich history and location. Students live in furnished apartments that are a 15-minute walk to the Scuola and a 5-minute walk to Piazza San Marco.

Working class and studio space is provided in spacious studios, in classrooms as well as in the computer room and print workshop. Students can access the Scuola’s library and have Internet access. Independent work is available in out-of-class hours in the printshop and in the paint studio. Classes are taught both in English and Italian; international students receive help from BFA and MFA graduate assistants and fellows, both in and out of the classroom.
