Venice July Intensive Program

Printmaking and Drawing

Offered for the first time in 1995, this program, which is open to artists and aspiring artists at all levels of accomplishment, offers participants the opportunity for serious artistic development in drawing and printmaking influenced by the artistic and cultural resources of Venice and the surrounding area. Workshop and classroom facilities will be provided at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia, located in the heart of Venice.

Academic Program and Cultural Activities
All programs participants will take two 3-semester-hour courses. Drawing-Using Venice as Source and Intaglio and Relief for a total of 6 s.h. of graduate or undergraduate credit. Each student will work independently at the appropriate level of accomplishment under the supervision of the program faculty director, Professor Emeritus Keith Achepohl of the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. Individual and group discussions are regularly scheduled.

Professor Achepohl also directs the participants’ extra-curricular cultural program. The latter combines lectures, visits to exhibits and museums, as well as participation in cultural events, such as the Festa del Redentore, within Venice. Weekly excursions outside of Venice feature the artistic offerings of Padua, Vicenza and Verona. Optional excursions to Trieste, Florence, and Mantua as well as Rome are possible for weekend excursions from Venice.
