All the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers➤ members who wish to attend a studio residency➤ at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica are granted a 10% discount on the studio fees.

Visiting Guest Artist Full Fellowship

Every year, during the academic year (October-May) one RE member will be selected for a 6 week full fellowship. The RE Visiting Guest Artist will receive keys and full access to the studios 7 days a week, as well as housing accommodation in a private bedroom in the Scuola’s apartments, located in the heart of Venice. A solo exhibition will be also granted. The Guest Artists are responsible for their meals and for travel and local transportation costs. The Visiting Guest Artist is expected to attend concurrently running courses and workshops at the Scuola on a biweekly basis. The artist’s role in the classroom is to act as a mentor, providing further knowledge, input, and guidance to participating students. This enables the Guest Artist to become further integrated into the fabric of the Scuola’s community, while fostering dialogue in a dynamic studio setting among artists both local and international. The position allows for both the freedom and time to create new work in the studio, culminating in a solo exhibition in the SG Gallery.

In addition to the Full Fellowship, the RE artist selected for the Visiting Guest Artist Full Fellowship will receive a £250,00 grant from the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.

ACCOMMODATION INFORMATION - Artist Studio Residencies are offered without housing accommodation. The Scuola is glad to offer assistance in locating housing accommodation in residential apartments shared with other resident artists.
STUDIO FACILITIES - Resident artists work in our large, luminous, fully equipped printshop with presses for all printmaking media. Additionally, a painting studio provides individual work spaces. Please note that our painting studio is not suited for oil paint, nor for painting methods which may provoke strong smells or require use of toxic materials. Painters are encouraged to apply for work projects based on painting techniques that are compatible with a shared space.
LIFE AT THE SCUOLA - Resident artists have open access to the Scuola’s studio facilities. They are given keys
to the Scuola and are welcome to use the facilites 7 days a week, from 9am to 10:30pm. Both artists and students enjoy
participating in life at the Scuola through presentations and critiques. When in calendar, resident artists have the opportunity to attend our classes and workshops at no additional cost.
COMPUTER ROOM AND SERIGRAPHY - The computer room is equipped with 12 iMacs and 2 scanners. As printers are not available we will direct you to a printing shop for good quality printouts. The computer room is free all day from June to September, and in October to May from 16:45.
The Scuola's premises are connected to the internet with wi-fi. Resident artists also have access to
a serigraphy studio equipped with exposure unit.
ART SUPPLIES - These Materials are available to everyone: Etching grounds, soft ground, alcohol, petroleum, abrasive powders, detergents,
bites (ferric chloride, copper solphate), lithography stones and materials, screens and equipment for serigraphy, black ink for etching, lithography and typography, proof paper and vellum paper. Other equipment is available only on a limited basis (glue, acrylics, permanent markers, masking tape, cutters, carborundum, tarlatan). You are required to provide your own materials, including brushes and pencils. Gloves, tarlatan, coloured inks, etching paper, copper, aluminium, wood and zinc can be purchased from the Studio or in local stores. The equipment of the Scuola is valuable. Since everyone can use it, special care must be taken to return all such equipment where they belong. Things are never to be taken out of the Scuola. Each morning a staff member checks all the equipment, printing characters, inks, rollers, brushes. Books are to be returned to their place after you have consulted them and are never to be taken out of the Scuola.
SHIPPING GOODS TO ITALY - Shipping goods to Italy is a hazardous business, as customs may block them and request complicated paperwork. Shampoo, medicines, vitamines, health supplements will almost certainly be checked. The Scuola is unable to provide assistance in dealing with customs, therefore we strongly discourage all our resident artists from shipping items to Venice.
NON DISCRIMINATION POLICIES - The Scuola welcomes in its studios artists of all genders, ethnic groups, political and sexual orientations.
YOUR ART-WORK - All our resident artists are requested to donate a minimum of one art-work produced during their residency for the Scuola's collection.
