The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice invites you to experience of its two-hour workshops designed to introduce the wider public to the world of Printmaking and Bookbinding.
Participants will be able to immerse themselves in the magical atmosphere of an internationally established print-workshop, where, among ancient presses, precious papers, inks and copper plates, tradition meets innovation. The methods are the same as those of the Renaissance masters, but revisited in a contemporary key, thanks to the use of sustainable materials and techniques, in wide, airy and luminous facilities.
We will accompany our guests along a creative path that will culminate with the creation of an original work on paper.
Our facilities, 1.000 sqm of laboratories, classrooms and garden, are wheelchair accessible. Due to COVID-19 emergency, the Scuola requires its students to respect social distancing.
Participants in this creative workshop will design and bind a small Artist’s Book, to be used as a sketchbook, an album or a special gift. The Scuola has a rich collection of Artist’s Books that has grown over the years thanks to donations from important artists and to participation in international projects. Through the years, we have organized events, exhibitions and courses related to this medium. Thanks to our Workshops we make it accessible to all creativity enthusiasts.
This workshop is an immersion in the atmospheres and scents of an authentic print-workshop, where many masters have used machinery and tools that continue living in the hands of our students.
The participants in this creative workshop will be introduced to the art of engraving through the drypoint process.
Our guests will receive a precious copper plate and, guided by our staff, will engrave, ink and print it on paper with our ancient presses.
In this workshop there is no use of acids or toxic materials of any kind and the inks used are sustainable and of the latest generation.
The Scuola is an institution known and appreciated by many Venetians (and not only!), who since 1969 have attended courses in printmaking techniques, calligraphy, painting and drawing, artist’s book and bookbinding and many other artistic disciplines.
