«Imparaticci» is a project by Mandy Bonnell that explores traditions in lace making that was first shown at EAGLE GALLERY CABINET ROOM London in September 2021. At the invitation of Matilde Dolcetti examples of these delicate works now come to the ‘ridotto’ of Palazzo DANDOLO PARISI, Venezia.
Imparaticci focussed on a unique artist’s book that was a meditation on the craft of lace making. Inspired by research into the ‘white work’ embroidery collection held at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NY City and the domestic lace samplers at the Museo del Merletto di Burano; the recent work combines pin-prick and pencil drawing, with tiny areas of collage, in addition to minutely detailed botanical studies.
A catalogue with texts by Charles Darwent and Emma Hill published for the exhibition by EMH Arts, London, is available.
Internationally recognised, with residencies at the Albers Foundation in 2009 and 2014, and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in 2013 and at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, Venezia 2017. Bonnell specialises in drawing and print, and in the early 1990’s helped establish a self-sustaining print workshop in Lamu, Kenya, with the support of the British Council.
