Floating City
Gli studenti dovranno produrre 3 collage completi (A4 o A3), che includano un’immagine di concetto, un’immagine contestualizzante, due sezioni, una mappa e una vista prospettica. Gli studenti appenderanno i propri lavori alla fine del secondo giorno e illustreranno le proprie idee per cinque minuti esatti. Il gruppo darà un premio alla proposta più poetica.
Gli studenti non dovranno avere alcuna preparazione architettonica o di disegno, solamente l’immaginazione e il desiderio di osservare l’ambiente in cui viviamo per estrapolare momenti poetici espressi attraverso il mezzo del libero e semplice collage.
FLOATING CITY/CITTA’ GALLEGGIANTE
Utilizzando tecniche di collage, gli studenti dovranno ideare un centro termale a Venezia in cui due persone possano incontrarsi e parlare. “Uno spazio per coloro che si sono persi nel pesante flusso di dati della vita contemporanea per distrazione o per frenesia”.
All’interno di questa sfumatura architettonica, gli studenti dovranno esaminare il proprio approccio circa l’etica del lavoro in relazione ai problemi del mondo moderno. Utilizzando immagini fotografiche scattate in giro per Venezia, schizzi e altro tipo di materiale originale, gli studenti costruranno una serie di collage che inizieranno ad esprimere un vocabolario architettonico che esplori il concetto metaforico del galleggiamento. Gli spazi che possono galleggiare tra la vita e il lavoro, tra ciò che è urbano e selvaggio, tra la sfera emozionale e intellettuale.

Jeffrey James ha conseguito il diploma di interior designer presso la Chelsea School of Art e Hornsey School of Art a Londra e completa I suoi studi di architettura press oil Royal College of Art nel 1985. Lavora presso gli Marcel Breuer Associates a New York ed in seguito Ettore Sottsass e il Memphis Design Group.
Nel 1987, lancia il suo studio di architettura e intrior design, specializzandosi in progetti design-and-make. Inoltre apre un laboratorio per la manifattura di pezzi unici di design di architettura, mobili e illuminazione. Jeffrey è frequentemente giurato ospite nella giuria della Brtlett School of Architecture. Al momento insegna con Mark Titman presso la scuola di architettura della Greenwich University.

Espone due dei suoi disegni a carboncino nella sezione di architettura della 2007 Royal Academy Summer Show.
Students will be asked to produce 3 finished collaged images of quality (A4 or A3). They will have to include a concept image, a context image, two sectional/elevations, a plan view and a perspective view.
Students will have to pin up at the end of the second day and speak intelligently about their ideas and images for five minutes.A prize will be awarded by the group for the most poetic proposition.
Students will not need to have any prior architectural drawing skills. Only an imagination and the desire to look at our built environment with the view to seek out poetic moments expressed through the medium of loose and simple collage.
FLOATING CITY
Using collage techniques, students will be asked to design a public bath-spa for two people to meet and talk in the city. “A space for those franticly and distractedly immersed in heavy data. A place to meet and talk business in a looser and lighter way”.
Within this architectural context, students will also be asked to question their own ideas about work ethic and its current relationship to the ills of the modern world.
Using photographic images taken in and around Venice, sketches and other generative material, students will construct a series of collages that will begin to speak of an architectural vocabulary that explores metaphorical floating. Spaces that can float between live and work, urbanity and wilderness, the emotional and intellectual.

Jeffrey James was trained as an interior designer at Chelsea School of Art and Hornsey School of Art in London and completed his architectural studies at the Royal College of Art in 1985. He began his career with Marcel Breuer Associates in New York followed by work with Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Design Group. In 1987, he launched his own private architecture and interior design practice, specialising in design-and-make projects. He has also established a workshop for manufacturing architectural specials, furniture and lighting. Jeffrey is a frequent guest juror at The Bartlett School of Architecture. He is currently teaching with Mark Titman at the architectural school of Greenwich University.
Jeffrey James exhibits currently his work with the EYESTORM GALLERY (http://www.eyestorm.com/artists/profile/Jeffrey_James.html). He has two of his charcoal drawings exhibited in the architectural section of the 2007 Royal Academy Summer Show.
