The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica is an independent institution located in one of the liveliest area of central Venice, Cannaregio. Our programs are designed to support serious artists making important work in ideal, inspiring conditions. Studio Residencies are offered throughout the year to professional and practicing artists working in Printmaking, the Artist’s Book, Drawing & Painting, Illustration and Calligraphy. Resident artists have access to the studios and library 7 days a week. While working on their individual projects, resident artists are encouraged to interact with the Scuola’s international creative community and participate in all the courses and workshops in calendar at no additional fees. Classes meet from October to May. Since 1969, our resident artists have worked side by side with Italian and international artists and have taken part in our daily activities: workshops, seminars, presentations, exhibitions, visits to collections and libraries. Studio Resident artists are fully immersed in the local life and culture.
“The Scuola is a well-established institution offering a congenial atmosphere to develop one’s artistic practice. Developed and managed by Venetian artists, the Scuola is a unique artist residency in the center of Venice and, in my opinion, the best in the city. The facilities are well maintained and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive. From January to August of 2015, I spent seven months at the Scuola during a sabbatical from my university in the United States. Thus, I feel uniquely qualified to write this review and thankful that I got to know the institution and its staff well (who now feel like family to me). Not only did this residency provide an opportunity for me to make new work, but also to make some great new friends among the other visiting artists at the Scuola. Among the residencies that I have attended around the world, I would consider the Scuola to be one of the best. I plan to return and to recommend the Scuola to my colleagues and friends.”

Although the Scuola is an internationally established center for Printmaking, we encourage non-printmakers to apply for our residencies. In order to work autonomously in our printshop, non-experts may attend an introductory 2-days course. This foundation course is offered on a weekly basis and has an additional cost of €300.00. Artists who are not interested in printing are welcome to work on their chosen media and are not requested to attend introductory classes.
