Due to the global pandemic, 2021 residency programs are suspended

The Program

Artist Residencies are offered throughout the year in Venice, Italy, to professional and practicing artists working in Printmaking, the Artist’s Book, Drawing & Painting, Illustration and Calligraphy. The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica is an independent institution located in one of the liveliest area of central Venice, Cannaregio. Our programs are designed to support serious artists making important work in ideal, inspiring conditions. Resident artists have access to the studios and library 7 days a week. While working on their individual projects, resident artists are encouraged to interact with the Scuola’s international creative community and participate in all the courses and workshops in calendar at no additional fees. Classes meet from October to May. Since 1969, our resident artists have worked side by side with Italian and international artists and have taken part in our daily activities: workshops, seminars, presentations, exhibitions, visits to collections and libraries. Studio Resident artists therefore are fully immersed in the local life and culture.

Full & Partial Fellowships

Academic Partial Fellowship

This partial fellowhip is offered to students of Italian and international academies and universities of art and to arts graduates who have obtained their degree within two years of application.

Visiting Guest Artist Full Fellowship

3 residencies are awarded each year to established printmakers and Book Artists.

We select one member of The Boston Printmakers→, one member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers→, and one independent artist.

Printmaking for non experts

Although the Scuola is an internationally established center for Printmaking, we encourage non-printmakers to apply for our residencies. In order to work autonomously in our printshop, non-experts may attend an introductory 2-days course. Artists who are not interested in printing are welcome to work on their chosen media and are not requested to attend introductory classes.

Accommodation in Venice

Artists can request a private or a shared bedroom in Palazzo Dandolo on the Grand Canal or in the Artist’s House, in the Island of Murano.

Budget accommodation is offered in the A&O Hostel, in Mestre, where you can opt for single, double or 4-6 beds bedrooms.

These locations are connected by 24h public transportation.

“The Scuola is a well-established institution offering a congenial atmosphere to develop one’s artistic practice. Developed and managed by Venetian artists, the Scuola is a unique artist residency in the center of Venice and, in my opinion, the best in the city. The facilities are well maintained and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive….”
