The Program

Artist Studio Residencies are offered throughout the year to professional and practicing artists in Venice, Italy. Work projects are in Printmaking, the Artist’s Book, Drawing & Painting, Illustration and Calligraphy.  A Studio Residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica provides a unique opportunity to experience Italy & Venice, not as a tourist, but as independent working artists with the Studio’s international creative community. Resident artists have access to the Scuola’s studios 7 days a week. The Scuola is located in one of the liveliest area of Central Venice, Cannaregio.

While working independently on their individual projects, resident artists are encouraged to participate in all the activities -courses and workshops- in calendar at no additional fees. Classes meet from October to May, 2-6pm. We offer instruction in Printmaking, the Artist’s Book, Calligraphy, Watercolor.

Since 1969, our resident artists have worked side by side with Italian and international artists and have taken part in our daily activities: workshops, seminars, presentations, exhibitions, visits to collections and libraries. Resident artists are fully immersed in the local life and culture.

Printmaking for non experts

Although the Scuola is an internationally established center for Printmaking, we encourage non-printmakers to apply for our residencies. In order to work autonomously in our printshop, non-experts may attend an introductory 2-days course. This foundation course is offered on a weekly basis and has an additional cost of €300.00. Artists who are not interested in printing are welcome to work on their chosen media and are not requested to attend introductory classes.
